Freelancer Requirements

PrepLink is a private network for accounting professionals who have the background and expertise to work with CPA firms at a high level. Not all freelancers who request membership will be qualified to be on the platform. We use the following guidelines and requirements for membership:

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be based in the United States
  • Must have at least 3 years of recent experience working at a CPA firm
  • OR must be a tax attorney

Required Information

All potential freelancers must complete a profile, which is subject to review before being approved to use the platform. The following information is required to be considered:

  • Licensure numbers, if you are freelancing as a CPA or EA
  • Linkedin Profile URL
  • Detailed employment history
  • Education History
  • A clear profile picture
  • Resume
  • Hourly Range
  • Location


All freelancers have the opportunity to become Verified members, as a way to build trust and transparency across the network. Verified members display a green ‘Verified’ badge on their profile. Verification includes:

  • Basic Criminal Background Check (carried out by

You most likely will not be admitted on if you:

  • Have no or very little public accounting experience (working for a CPA firm)
  • Are a self-taught accountant
  • Have public accounting experience but have not worked in accounting or related functions for several years
  • Are not based in the US

Types of freelancers currently in high demand:

  • Manager level or higher in public accounting
  • Subject-matter experts (CPA or non-CPA) in SALT, International, Incentives, Implementations, Risk Advisory, NFP, or any other expertise relevant to CPA firms
